TAS Inspections

Unlocking Accessibility For Your Property

In Texas, the Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS) serve as the guiding principles for achieving accessibility within residential and commercial properties.

What are Texas Accessibility Standards?

The Texas Accessibility Standards are a set of guidelines established by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to ensure that buildings and facilities in the state of Texas are accessible to individuals with disabilities. Larry is a licensed RAS (Registered Accessibility Specialist) # 1698 with TDLR and can perform the necessary plan review prior to construction. He can perform the final accessibility inspection required by TDLR. TAS encompasses various aspects of accessibility, including building design, construction, and renovation, with the goal of providing equal access to all individuals regardless of their physical abilities.

These standards are based on the 1990s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility guidelines and are administered by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation(TDLR). Every project over $50,000 has to be reviewed prior to construction for proper accessibility. Accurate Home and Commercial can help you register your project and we can provide the necessary plan review that must be filed with the TDLR prior to construction.  Once the project is completed, Accurate can also perform the final inspection and upload all documents to TDLR.

The team Accurate Home and Commercial Services are TAS inspection certified professionals who assess buildings and facilities to determine whether they meet the requirements outlined in the TAS guidelines. Key Elements of TAS Inspections

During your TAS inspections, our team will evaluate various aspects of a building or facility to determine compliance with accessibility standards. Some key elements that may be assessed during TAS inspections include:

  • ENTRANCES AND EXITS

Evaluate the accessibility of entrances and exits, including door widths, thresholds, and maneuvering clearances, to ensure that individuals with disabilities can enter and exit the building safely and independently.

  • PARKING FACILITIES

TAS inspections include an assessment of parking facilities to check for proper signage, dimensions, and accessibility features such as access aisles and ramp slopes.

  • INTERIOR SPACES

Inspectors evaluate interior spaces, including corridors, restrooms, and common areas, checking that they are designed and constructed in a manner to allow individuals with disabilities to navigate the space easily and access amenities.

  • ACCESSIBILITY FEATURES

TAS inspections also focus on the presence and functionality of accessibility features such as ramps, handrails, grab bars, and tactile signage.
